Stegosaurion

Tall lumbering friendly giants, well, tall for a Saurion.

The big friendly giants, the Stegosaurion’s ancestors, were Stegosauruses. Stegos on average are taller than the other Saurions ranging from 4’5” to 5’5” which probably doesn’t seem like much when compared to other humanoids but trust them, they’re tall. Stegos are also the slowest moving, most patient, tend to be the kindest, and are quick to make friends. Unlike the Cerasaurion they’re much more solitary, they love being around others but they’re just as content living alone or staying in their room all day. Where Ceras are very quick to make multiple friends and cycle through them quickly, Stegos keep smaller tighter knit friend circles and will likely keep them for life. Like most Saurion they’re omnivorous but fruits and vegetables taste best to them so many Stegos will practice a frugivorous diet.

For adaptations Stegos have developed softer spines with a rubbery or silicone feel, these spines can bend and move out of the way. When Stegosauruses were alive breeding was difficult due to their spines, males were just as likely to hurt themselves in the process because of their mate’s spines. There are a lot of theories as to how they got around this like lakes or that males just accepted their fate. But Stegosaurians evolved softened spines that they can harden by flexing. If their spines stayed hard all the time it’s possible that a saurion who fell on it’s back wouldn’t be able to get up.

Stego ears happen to be larger than their already big eared cousins because of their typically larger stature. Like other Saurion their ears are used to dissipate excess heat by flapping their ears, when cold however they raise their ears like sails to catch sunlight and build up their temperature. This is similar to what elephants do with their ears, but elephants are mammals and don’t have a problem keeping warm, Stegos are still cold blooded even if you might not notice. Stegos especially are efficient at this temperature equalization, because of this you’re more likely to see Stegos venturing further north than other Saurions.
