Baby Saurion

heartly.png

Saurions who are born via live birth are called pups, and egg lain babies are called skips. Pups when born are nearly blind and are very similar to human babies having no motor skills, no concept of object permanence, and are incredibly reliant on their parents. Parents with breasts can breast feed pups but the majority will choose to feed them pureed foods like mashed meats, veggies, and fruits. Pups aren’t born with teeth but can fully digest these meals.

Skips on the other hand are able to walk clumsily from hatching and can chew their own food. But it’s recommended parents give their skips diced or cubed whole foods. Their stomachs aren’t fully developed and eating processed foods and high sugar foods will upset their sensitive stomachs.

At one year old both skips and pups are able to walk and talk like a human 3 years old but still lack most motor skills. But at this point they’re easier to care for as they can be fully bipedal unless they’re Parasaurion. Your baby Para will need another year before they can comfortably stand upright. Skips horns will start to grow from nubs to their first set of horns now, whereas Pups will only start growing their horns now. Skips start with small horns as a way to break out of their eggs. At this point your skips and pups will only be identifiable as either by their horns as they’re now both capable of speech and independence. Pups will take some more time to feel comfortable being alone though, their dependency period has left them reliant on their parent’s constant presence. But most are ok as long as they can hear your voice so you might want to keep their baby monitor a little longer.

At this point you might notice that their ears, eyes, heads, and feet are large, they’ll grow into them. They kind of look like chibi versions of adults. This cute appearance is supposed to trigger an emotional response in nearby Saurion and trigger parental instincts. If a baby is lost another Saurion will take care of them immediately and stay with them until they find their parents. The emotional response young Saurion cause makes adults incapable of ignoring them or wishing them harm. From this point on their growth will mimic humans and they’ll reach adulthood at 18 years old. When they become adults the only way to know if one was a pup or skip is based on their body types, height, and what their parents call them. When it comes to parents you’re always their baby. Skips tend to be taller because they start whole foods and eventually processed foods sooner.
